The Slipper, and the picture clouds.

There is now 2 weeks until the running of the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes, and in two successive weekends it's been turned on its head.  Last Sunday my filly Karuta Queen tasted defeat for the first time in the Black Opal Stakes in Canberra.  And today the ruling and overwhelming Slipper favourite Sepoy was rolled.  The king of the Blue Diamond, and of the Melbourne two year old season was not comfortable on the wet track and finished second to Smart Missile.  The winner is clearly a good horse, although the fact that both of his two wins have been on wet tracks might be clouding the picture slightly.

And in the fillies division, the previously unbeaten filly Satin Shoes also tasted defeat for the first time, when over run by the More Than Ready filly Elite Falls.  Gotta love a little MTR Girl!!!!!

Elite Falls wins the Reisling Stakes on 19 March 2011
Smart Missile defeats Sepoy in the Todman Stakes.
